IBD and COVID-19

IBD Partners is committed to researching how the coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected the IBD community through research. This page highlights many of the initiatives that are happening in our network. Our goal is to provide the most relevant and timely data to our IBD patients and caregivers.

Surveillance Epidemiology of Coronavirus Under Research Exclusion (SECURE-IBD) is an international, pediatric and adult database to monitor and report on outcomes of COVID-19 occurring in IBD patients. We encourage IBD clinicians worldwide to report ALL cases of COVID-19 in their IBD patients, regardless of severity (including asymptomatic patients detected through public health screening).

With the collaboration of our entire IBD community, we will rapidly be able to define the impact of COVID-19 on patients with IBD and how factors such as age, comorbidities, and IBD treatments impact COVID outcomes.

We hope you will actively contribute to this voluntary reporting system. Through broad scale participation and collaboration, we will be able to answer these very pressing questions for our IBD patients and their caregivers.

If you have any questions, please reach out to COVID.IBD@unc.edu.

IBD Partners has recently received funding to better understand IBD patient perspectives on community engaged research during the COVID-19 pandemic. We will host virtual focus groups to identify and prioritize themes that are important to the IBD patient community during this pandemic. We hope this data will help guide future research initiatives that directly address interest highlighted in the focus groups. If you have questions or are interested in participating in this study please contact info@ibdpartners.org.
